Building Healthy and Lasting Habits For Your Family

Building Healthy and Lasting Habits For Your Family

Posted on March 30, 2022

Hey parents! Did you know you only have the first nine years of your child’s life to teach them healthy habits that will last a lifetime? According to a Brown University study, children’s habits and routines become ingrained when they reach nine years old, so moms and dads have this brief window of time to impact their children’s health habits significantly. Start slowly with a few minor changes, including introducing healthier snacks, better hydration habits, or incorporating some time to play and exercise after school. No matter how small, these changes will help your child live a healthier life with good habits lasting to adulthood.

Check out these easy tips:

  • Tag, you're it! Spend at least 30 minutes outdoors every day, whether playing a fun game of tag, shooting hoops, or taking a walk around the neighborhood. Your time outside teaches your kids the importance of daily physical activity, and most importantly, you will all have fun doing it!
  • Cook together. If your kids are old enough, encourage them to help cook at least one night a week. They’ll learn the skills to meal prep and plan, plus how to responsibly grocery shop and make healthy food choices. Meal prep and cooking are vital skills, and your kids will be proud of their accomplishments.
  • No electronics zones. Technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, but too much technology can cause stress and impact sleep cycles for kids. Set a space where technology is out of the picture and take time to create memories with your family. Your kids will learn to set healthy boundaries with the noisy digital world.
  • Hydrate! No matter what your day entails, remind your kids to stay hydrated with their Cirkul water bottles! According to Harvard researchers, most people should drink at least 6 to 8 cups of water per day. Your kiddos will love hydrating with Cirkul and choosing their own favorite flavors.

These are just a handful of ideas to help you and your family build a healthier lifestyle. Remember, the earlier you start, the better, and your kids will be more likely to carry these good habits into adulthood.
